Welcome to Rosecrest Kennels

** Update: June 16th, 2008 **

In one of the recent thunder and electrical storms in our area, a lightning strike hit us and destroyed our PC so we are not able to access the internet or answer emails at this time. If you have emailed us recently, it will take us some time to get back online and we promise to reply as soon as we can.

I have been a longstanding Canadian Kennel Club member since 1980 and breeding quality Labradors for almost 30 years. I strongly believe all dogs should be capable of fulfilling the purpose for which they were originally bred. To ensure my lines working ability is maintained I regularly participate in various dog related activities . To this end I also became a licensed Canadian Kennel Club Working Certificate and Hunting Test judge. I am a member in good standing with the Nipissing Kennel Club and along with daughter Julie McFadden I am a volunteer trainer of their obedience classes.

I purchased my first Labrador Retriever as a gundog, primarily for retrieving waterfowl after becoming very frustrated at being unable to retrieve all my dropped birds myself. The best thing I ever did was buy that pup and train him, and I have never regretted this, or looked back. I will never hunt without a dog again.

Our line of Border Terriers was established in the 90's after having a female Border Penny which we acquired in the early 1980's. She was my daughter Julie's inseparable companion. Border Terriers are fun little dogs, that are very energetic, love to run and romp, and will tackle any job with great enthusiasm. Highly intelligent, they can be a handful, but with the right training, and patience, and exercise they are wonderful companions.

My children and the dogs I have bred have grown up together, Julie now breeds Golden Retrievers and Labradors under the Rosecrest name, and is carrying on the family tradition of producing sound, well rounded dogs with great potential whether it be as a fireside companion or as a top rated gun-dog with a soft mouth and a strong instinct.

Dogs from our kennel have gone on to achieve many accomplishments. They have often been titled in Obedience Trials, Working and Hunting Tests, and have earned Conformation Championships. As well they have become drug dogs, guide dog, special needs dogs, hearing ear dogs, and of course loving family companions.

Puppies are raised in our home, on our 700+ acre farm just south of the town of Powassan, along with our herd of 100+ red and black angus cattle. Primarily a dairy farmer until 2006 we have scaled down our operation so that I now have more time to spend with my beloved dogs.

Colleen & dogsOur dogs are exercised as a pack daily, and all swim in our ponds, until they can no longer break through the ice, even the Borders! Its amazing what a competitive spirit can spark. In the winter we walk through the trail my husband ploughs for us through the snow and the dogs chase each other and play their dogs games with abandon, what a beautiful sight. I am truly blessed.

All Labradors in our breeding program and any outside dogs we use are all OVC Hip and elbow certified, and ACVO diplomat cleared annually for inherited defects. Border are x-rayed also, and have eye clearances, as well.

Retriever puppies leave our home for your home at 7-8 weeks of age, Borders at 9 weeks of age. All our puppies are well socialized, have lst shots, are dewormed vet checked and rated in excellent health, are either tattooed, or microchipped for CKC registration, are covered by a 2 year hip & elbow guarantee and a 3 year eye guarantee, and the Labrador pups start retrieving wings at 6 weeks of age.

Occasionally we have started retrievers for sale, and some older females which we have retired from our breeding program.

We recommend before purchasing one of our pups, you must have a sense of humour, all our dogs do!
