My Tribute to YoYo
YoYo was born May 12, l992, one of five lovely puppies – first breeding for both his sire and dam. He was such a sweet and shy puppy, not the type of "look at me" attitude you would want for a show dog. I nicknamed him Sunny and he was placed as a pet. Thankfully the new owners were neurotic and after 4 days (and many phone calls) I took the puppy back. As he developed the choice became clear, he was staying and the name was changed to YoYo.
At six months, (Dec. ’92) YoYo won Winner’s Dog at the Lhasa Apso Canada Specialty under Judge Andrew Brace from the U.K. He was not shown again until April ’93, when he took a Group placement the first time out and finished his Championship on his fourth day of showing.
The next milestone was when YoYo won his 12 – 15 month class under Judge
Anne Rogers Clark at the American National (ALAC) in Chantily, Virginia.
In ’94 Yo was taken to the US to get his American title. The first day out he took the only major for the weekend. His next trip he took his second major and finished his title on a subsequent trip.
Betty had been working in Brace with Yo and his sister Daisy (Ch. Lasacas Second Chance at Jengo) and by this time they were "hot"- they were definitely a crowd favourite! YoYo and Daisy won 17 Best Brace in Show awards in Canada and the U.S.
By the end of "94 we were back at the Credit Valley Show (one of the
largest in Canada) and competing for top Lhasa Apso of the year. YoYo pulled it
off in style with group placements and Specialty wins. Now it was becoming
evident what kind of potential this boy had. The next goal was to win a Best In
Show.
In April ’95 he did it, and then again in Sept ‘95…always giving more
than was asked. In 1996 another 6 Bests and consistently placed or won the
group. He was #1 Lhasa Apso and also #2 Non-Sporting Dog in Canada – still
only 4 years old and loving every minute at the show. Time to set another goal,
to beat the record for Lhasas in Canada which at that time was 13 Best in Show
wins.
In ’97 he broke the record and continued adding to his total – 7 more BISs in Canada and one in Bermuda where he completed his Championship and won the Top Foreign Dog Award. We flew to the National in Tacoma, Wa and under breeder/judge KeKe Kahn, he was given the 1st Award of Merit. He also won Group 1st at the Canadian Show of Shows where only BIS dogs compete and completed the year by once again being #1 Lhasa Apso.
In ’98 Yo was entered at Westminster and received an Award of Merit. it was a thrill to see him in the ring at the Madison Square Gardens, the Award of Merit was the icing on the cake. During ’99, and with very limited showing, he still won 3 more Best In Shows and was again #1 Lhasa.

In total YoYo has 21 BIS, 10 BISS, 2 Award of Merit and was #1 Lhasa for five years.
YoYo was a true showman, he lived for the applause.

Best of Breed This Veteran Male never let me down the whole time he was in the ring. His ease of movement and confidence, combined with his correct type, topline, head etc. just made the choice a little easier. I was surprised that he just didn’t come out to the middle of the ring and take the ribbon from me. He certainly was the consummate showman. He knew why he was there and worked his best to prove it to me. He did.
At home he was a quiet, loving companion, only allowing “family” to see him acting silly and then he would check to make sure who was watching. He loved to play in the yard with the girls, checking out any new smells and chasing squirrels along the fence.

With one extra special dog, a dream comes true! For all of you who were there for YoYo, thank you, your support was appreciated.

There is a special bond that only some can share, a communication of thoughts and feelings that transcends the barriers, a meeting of heart and soul. I was the fortunate one to experience this and so parting with such a friend was all the more difficult. The many kinds words were very appreciated and this special tribute from Linda Kendall Smith, Orlanes Lhasa Apsos, made me so proud.
There have been few dogs I have had the pleasure to know and meet that have affected me more than Yo. I have had the pleasure of going over many good dogs, but none that gave me goose bumps and a smile from ear to ear like Yo did. A coat that was to die for, a head that I would personally stamp on ever dog I own. His personality was of great love and pleasure with, I am guessing, everyone he met. I know the wins he received were much appreciated by Janet and Betty his breeders, but to be able to live with a dog that brings that much joy into your life words can't express.
With tears in my eyes this morning and great sadness in my heart I will miss Yo and can only hope that you all have a dog in your lives that is even half the wonder of this great dog named YoYo.
