With his all white body and nice black head, Rocky stood out from the moment he was born. As he grew and moved around the whelping box his natural show ability became evident. As he stood in a perfect stack, he had a way of making everyone take notice.

Rocky, like his sister Frosty, was a bit slow to mature. I didn’t show him much as a puppy but when I finally entered him at the NACA shows in Edmonton at 9 months of age, we was more than ready, capturing Best Puppy in Group awards all three days. He went to one other show as a puppy but then stayed home while his brother Mickey was out at the shows. They were both entered at the Alberta Kennel Club’s Winter shows in 2004 along with their mother Abby and, much to my delight and surprise, Rocky took the breed two out of three days to start him on his way to his Championship.

2004 was to be Rocky's year. He was to go out to the shows with handler Shaunna Bernardin to get used to the shows while we waited for him to mature. Well he got used to them, he started picking up group placings and became the first Kaltoba bred dog to earn a Group 1 and he picked up a couple of those. By the end of 2004 he had accumulated 2 Group 1's, 2 Group 2's, 3 Group 3's, and 6 Group 4's, resulting in Rocky being the number 2 Smooth Fox Terrier in Canada and the number 1 Canadian bred Smooth Fox Terrier in Canada for 2004.

Also in 2004 Rocky and I ventured south to Washington State to attend our first American Fox Terrier Club National Specialty and the Fox Terrier Fanciers of Puget Sound Specialty. Under the expert handling of Shawn Nichols and Raymond Yurick, Rocky was RWD at the FTFPS Specialty out of a large number of dogs, and placed in his class at the AFTC Specialty making this a very exciting weekend for us both.

The year 2004 was not to be all good for Rocky or Kaltoba. Just before Christmas 2004 Rocky was out in the yard playing with my PBGV's - Cooter and Lulu. In typical Rocky fashion he would run around the yard, jumping on and off the deck stairs trying to get the PBGV's to chase him. Well he got them to chase him and as he was flying up the deck stairs his leg got caught and the PBGV's slammed into him with full force severing the ligaments in his rear leg and popping out the cartilage. Many hours were spent with my Vet agonizing on what could be done and the resulting quality of life for Rocky in the long term. We decided to wait until after Christmas and 4 days after his second birthday I made the decision to put him down and end any and all suffering for him.
