Ch. Trollhattan’s Westminster Abby
Breeder: Emily
Gratton (Trollhattan)
Owner: Doug Fisher
Abby was the first to arrive
at “Kaltoba” and, with her lively personality, has since shown me
exactly what it is like to own a Terrier! She was always on the move,
never sitting, never resting, unless in her crate. Always on the
go and ready for anything, nothing ever bothered her.
Abby also showed me that I
don’t necessarily have the personality to show Terriers. Both the dogs
and I do better when I am sitting comfortably at ring side in my lawn
chair while they go in with handlers. We get along great at home –
but in the ring we are at odds.

At 6 months of age, Abby and
I made our show debut at the Cranbrook, BC dog shows and BC All Terrier
Club Specialty. With me handling Abby won the Specialty
Sweepstakes (pictured above), and that was only the
beginning of her winning. At her next show in Edmonton,
Alberta with Shaunna Bernardin handling, Abby picked up her first group
placement. She followed that up with Junior Handler Ryan Ferguson
who won first in his class showing Abby (pictured below).
Since competition for
Smooth’s was very scarce in Alberta, Abby often had to travel out of
province to earn points. Shaunna wasn’t travelling so Abby went
out with Larry Clark and Ray Yurick/Shawn Nichols picking up another
group placement and completing her championship.
Everyone knew when “Abby”
was at the show – she was so excited and her whines and yelps could be
heard for miles around. In the end showing wasn’t for Abby – she
just wasn’t comfortable inside the ring so once she completed her
Canadian Championship, she was retired and began concentrating on
maternal duties.
Since having her first
litter, Abby has become very cuddly and ranks as the “Number One” couch
potato here at Kaltoba. She has already produced some lovely
puppies for us and we look forward to finding out what else she has in
store...
